Stan Boland

Entrepreneur and Founder, Icera Inc

Stan Boland has founded, led and sold three technology startups, raising $330M of venture capital and building businesses bought for $1.3 billion.

He was CEO of pioneer computer company Acorn and helped take its associate, ARM, public in 1998. Between 1999 and 2012, he founded and led two of Europe’s most successful venture-backed semiconductor companies, Element 14 Inc. and Icera Inc., selling them to US giants Broadcom and NVIDIA respectively. In 2015, he founded and led Five, an AI software start-up that built a self-driving car before pivoting to develop simulation technology for testing self-driving software, which he sold to Bosch in 2022.

His early career included 7 years with each of Rolls-Royce (aero engines) and ICL (computers). He’s a Cambridge physics graduate and is now angel investing in technology startups, predominantly on AI and/or semiconductor themes, including Fractile, Callosum, Tendrils, Cogna, Stateful, Paddington Robotics and others.
